.us

A .us belongs to organisations addressing the United States: a European manufacturer with an American sales arm, a service company invoicing US customers in dollars, a business working state by state. Where a .com says nothing about the market, a .us marks this out as the American side of the operation.

For companies active only outside the United States the extension adds little: it marks off one market and is not meant as a general address. Providers that have to set out US privacy terms and shipping conditions separately keep a distinct address for exactly that reason.
