A .de is the address for anyone serving the German market: a wholesaler in North Rhine-Westphalia, a dental laboratory in Bavaria, a manufacturer abroad supplying German buyers directly. German customers and procurement staff expect it, and a .nl or .com raises the question of who deals with a problem when one occurs.
One restriction applies: local presence is required. That makes the extension impractical for briefly testing a market, and appropriate for companies that have already established themselves there or intend to.
