Who it is for

Who chooses a .eu?

A .eu suits organisations whose work spans several member states and who would rather not appear anchored to one. A software company in Dublin selling to customers in Germany, Spain and Poland reads as Irish with an .ie; with a .eu that question does not come up, and there is no need to maintain a separate domain per market.

The extension also carries meaning on its own. It is open only to organisations established in the European Union, to EU citizens wherever they live, and to residents of Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. Where a counterparty cares about establishment inside the EU, the address already says something.

Not everyone may register this extension

A .eu domain is restricted to the European Union. You are eligible as a citizen of an EU member state, regardless of where in the world you live; as a resident of an EU member state, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway without EU citizenship; or as an undertaking or organisation established in the European Union.
